Jimmy Asher Foundation’s Positive Youth Activities

B2B Basketball Coaching & Competitions

So you’ve heard about some of the Jimmy Asher Foundation’s events and international support projects in previous blog posts, but what about our regular weekly activities for young people?

Although we’re based in Tooting, JAF run various programmes every week in schools and youth clubs across London, giving young people positive activities to participate in after school. Sessions are led by tutors and coaches with excellent experience in their respective fields, all with the ability to engage with young people from various backgrounds.

We have fantastic Youth Boxing sessions three days a week by trained Boxing Coach and Author Robyn Travis who mixes boxing techniques with his own style of positive speaking. Robyn uses his life experiences to inform and uplift young people in Hackney on Tuesdays at The Crib youth club in De Beauvoir Estate, and Forest Youth Hub in Dalston on Thursday evenings. He also leads our after school Boxing sessions for the boys and girls of Chelsea Academy which we proudly run in partnership

with Chelsea FC Foundation.

B2B Basketball Coaching Sessions take place every Friday evening at Trinity-at-Bowes Centre Plus in Enfield, delivered by Franck Batimba who has over 20 years of experience in Basketball and is the Head Coach of Haringey Hawks basketball team. The young ballers are well trained in basketball skills, team playing and confidence on the court.

Our Radio Broadcasting workshops are run by New York native Kenny Baraka, who teaches teens the fundamentals of Radio Production along with presentation skills. Sessions run on Wednesday evenings at Providence House Youth Centre in Clapham, on Thursdays at Storm Family Centre in Battersea and Roehampton Youth Centre on Fridays. As mentioned in December’s blog post, previous participants of our Radio Broadcasting workshops have gone on to become presenters on our youth-led Young Voices radio show that airs on www.starradio.london every Monday from 5pm-7pm.

We’re currently in talks with a local youth club to bring our Radio Broadcasting workshops to Tooting as well as an exciting new careers programme. Watch this space for updates!!
